Inclusive education starts with one classroom.
Felix Otieno is a Special Needs Educator with Kenya's Ministry of Education, working at the intersection of national policy and classroom practice. His work spans Braille reform, disability screening, teacher training, and international dialogue on inclusive education.
Why I do this work.
I started teaching in schools where children with disabilities had been invisible โ not because they weren't there, but because no one had built the systems to see them. That changed how I thought about education entirely.
Over the past decade, I've worked from classrooms to policy rooms, from community screening outreaches to international dialogues in the UK. What connects all of it is a simple belief: inclusion is decided not in policy documents, but in what happens in a single classroom on an ordinary day.
Today, as part of Kenya's Ministry of Education, I help build the systems that make inclusive education the default โ not the exception.
